Montgomery County is the first county in the nation to Proclaim September as the African Heritage Month. On Sept 6th, 2016 the Montgomery County Executive Mr. Ike Leggett , presented the 8th proclamation certificate to the African Affairs Advisory Group and representatives of the African Communities as a tribute to the history ,culture,heritage and ancestry of Africans living in the Diaspora. Following the proclamation, African Immigrant communities, members of the African Diaspora and all people of African Descent continue to celebrate the month of September with pride. During the 2016, Pan African Festival event in Montgomery County, Maryland USA, the streets of downtown Silver Spring were closed.The Queens and Kings of Africa arrived with pride and marched as the great contributors of the nation.
